How to check LAN / router for Internet connection

Frequently, those operating within a LAN or behind a router can experience problems with their Internet connection. In order to check if this problem is due to your LAN / router or due to your ISP, follow these simple steps:

1. Launch your Command Prompt window (usually Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt).
2. Type netstat -an (this will display your IP and the IPs of those connected to you).
3. If the result shows only local IPs, then your router or LAN has a problem. Otherwise, the issue is due to something other than your LAN or router (check your modem or service status of your ISP).
